Expect to get about 2 years at most of good power than cells start to die. Used to be that the Bosch ones were always about 80 bucks and it was better to have them rebuilt at a battery shop for about 50 bucks...now Amazon's got them new for about the same price. Great! The Blue core is only slightly better. Not much. Just more insulation. The cells overheat and die and voltage drops off per cell (about 1.5 each). Check with voltage tester....you'll see older batteries even after recharging will be quite a bit less than new ones. (around 19 volts for new) Rules, Don't overwork the batteries, when power starts to full off recharge and replace with new immediately. Don't run 'em down. Heat kills 'em. Keep charged batteries always nearby. I love the tools esp. the jig saw and planer and skill saw. I find the Dewalt tools also good and their batteries seem slightly more powerful but my Bosch never fail...but the... Hint: Do not run your batteries until they are discharged as that shortens their useful life! Bosch should offer an upgrade path for all the registered owners of the "old" style tool sets to the newer battery technology! I first used it on a 5-year-old car battery whose voltage indicated that it was at about 40% capacity. After following the directions (about 6 days of desulphating), the voltage jumped up to a point that indicated that the battery was now at 90%. I have a friend who had been trickle charging his older car battery and felt that he had gotten it as fully charged as he could, but then I loaned him this charger and a week later got a phone message from him indicating surprise at how much his battery had improved. He was convinced! It's very possible to double a battery's life with this charger, and so it can pay for itself quickly. The problems with this charger are the complexity and the poor documentation. It brought a lawn tractor battery back to life from the dead, and it worked all Summer long, so it's half paid for already on that battery. I also used it on 3 AGM trolling motor batteries - It has brought them back to usefulness from being in a weak state, not to new condition but 2 are over 12.7 volts after sitting 24 hours, one I am still letting desulfanate, it's back to 11.8 volts after being at 6 volts. These batteries are 8 years old and now cost over $300 each so it's more than paid for itself restoring 2, and it brings the other one back after a sitting all Winter on it I will be very very impressed. From what I can tell so far, it seems to work best defulfantating wet cell batteries but it helps AGMs as well. The new charger I just received is going on a yellow top optima for the Winter to see if it will bring it back. Starting off it was at 10 volts after fully charging and letting sit for 24 hours so it's definitely toast... OptiMate 6 ampmatic is advanced and versatile battery charger, maintainer and tester. Each time you connect the OptiMate 6 to a battery the microprocessor automatically diagnoses the condition and automatically chooses the best charge current and program. OptiMate 6 is able to correctly initialize and charge new sealed batteries where the user is adding the acid pack to the battery. This enhanced multi-stage version of the acclaimed OptiMate desulfation program will automatically save many 'dead' batteries. It keeps your battery maintained, fully charged and safe, month after month, prolonging it's life by up to 400 per cent. The safe, optimal maintenance of your battery during long term storage, achieved by its gentle maintenance cycle which automatically allows the battery to rest for 30 minutes of each hour of the maintenance cycle while it remains connected. OptiMate 6 will only activate if the battery voltage measures at least 1.8V. The ampmatic processor checks the battery's condition to determine the appropriate charge program. If necessary, 2 or 3 stages of high voltage and oscillatory pulsing are applied to recover neglected, flat batteries. The voltage is limited to 16 volt. The ampmatic processor actively adjusts charge current to match battery characteristics, achieving a complete charge in the shortest time. Charge acceptance is continuously monitored to detect internal damage and prevent unnecessary charging of a battery that cannot be recovered.
