Save Time and Money by Keeping Your Battery Charged

It won't cause sparks when you connect it to your vehicle, and will alert you if it has been connected in reverse polarity. Over-current, over-voltage and short-circuit protection are also included to keep you safe. The audible Low Voltage Alarm monitors battery voltage and will sound before the battery is damaged by discharging too much. There's no need to plug the unit into AC power until this alarm sounds. The large LCD screen and bright LED bank make it easy to monitor battery voltage, charging mode, connection status, and overall battery health. The LCD display can even be turned off while charging or maintaining for long-term storage.

The Save A Battery 12-Volt Battery Charger Maintainer and Tester also features an innovative modular cable design that makes it easy to connect to any battery or vehicle. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good charger but over rated, February 24, 2012

This review is from: Save A Battery 1702 12-Volt Battery Charger Maintainer and Tester (Automotive)
I bought this 1702 model and tried to rejuvenate 2 almost dead car batteries. Even though the charger brought up the batteries to over 14v, they are dead again after being put back into a car for 1 day and the voltage decreased to under 12v.

The bottom line: This is a good and expensive floating charger and use it while your battery is still good. Don't expect that it will bring back your dead battery.

I ended up using a more versatile and less expensive charger NOCO Genius G3500.

3.0 out of 5 stars an expensive trickle charger, November 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Save A Battery 1702 12-Volt Battery Charger Maintainer and Tester (Automotive)
This is their top model and does everything. But the shunt load is very small and the battery tester is not very accurate. I tried to equalize my trolling battery on my boat but it could not discharge and charge well enough. It might be okay for a motorcycle or garden tractor battery. I tested the trolling battery with it and it said it was good. I tested the same battery with my Midtronic capacitance battery tester which said it was no good.
I now use it as a trickle charger for my Harley over winter. It has nice ringlet connectors on a nice long lead that can be permanently installed in the bike. Then I just plug the charger into the connector. No need to remove the seat to charge the battery any more. But you can do the same with any low priced trickle charger.

Bottom line: Not up to the hype.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great *MODULAR* alternative battery tender, July 13, 2012
This review is from: Save A Battery 1702 12-Volt Battery Charger Maintainer and Tester (Automotive)
This charger is unique in that it is the only MODULAR system on the market - know what you are getting. The comparisons to Optimate 6/Battery Tender Plus being cheaper or more versatile may be true, but those lack features this one has.

FEATURES:

For example, you can plug it into the cigarette outlet WITHOUT the A/C connection and it will act as portable voltmeter using the battery for power, displaying your car's system voltage as you are driving. Very handy unless you have 4 hands.

You can also shut off the LCD and turn on the alarm and leave it plugged in to your car indefinitely. If you have a parasitic drain, it will start beeping when the battery voltage gets too low.

FLAWS:

The unit's main flaw is its "discharging" function. It's internal load is weak (only 2A or so) and doesn't stop automatically. You'll have to listen for the low battery beep. (Perhaps it works that way to give you more time to catch it?) Mfg recommends... Read more
