1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, go buy a good deep cycle marine battery, March 6, 2011

I purchased this battery along with the Watchdog BWE backup sump pump back in June of 2008. At the time I forked out close to 150 dollars for the battery plus acid thinking the extra money spent would equal extra peace of mind. Well, it's March 2011 and I now have to replace the battery. We haven't been getting alot of rain and after a dry fall and winter, so my sump pumps (I have two pumps in the same hole, one the Watchdog the other my primary pump) haven't gotten alot of exercise lately. I try to check out the operational status of my Watchdog at least every six months to make sure all is well. For the last few days we have been getting alot of rain so the sump pump has been quite active. I decided that it was a good opportunity to check everything again. My test was simple, simulate a power outage by unplugging my primary pump and the trickle charger on the Watchdog so that it would run on the battery only. My first problem, which really has nothing to do with this review... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the $$ for Peace of Mind..., December 5, 2008

I've had this in place the past 4 years in my basement.... of course after my sump pump failed once, and had to replace carpeting! Unfortunately where I live now, in a rural development, I have the electric power grid fail about once every other month, for either limited or extended periods (2 hr min; 1 day max).

Since this can be weather unrelated, I need 365x24hr peace of mind, which the system does provide. This system does provide continuous monitoring as to when activated, if water is needed in the battery, or when the battery needs replacement. as in my experience in the past day.

Since this is a high capacity-deep cycle battery system, you have to buy batteries and acid separately (no "sealed" batteries).

The only issue I've had, is that the 1st battery I bought was the "emergency" version, which only lasted about 3-3.5 yrs. This time I went with the larger battery, knowing I should be good for 3-4 days without power with intermittent use... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Pooped out less than 1 year, May 30, 2011
This review is from: Glentronics, Inc. 30HDC140S Basement Watchdog Back-Up Sump Pump Battery (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bought this system less than 1year ago and the only maintenance needed was to add distilled water to the battery. Went away for a weekend and my 8 year old sump pump quit while I was gone. Arrived home to find the sump pit full and the battery alarm on. Talked to basement watchdog and they advised taking it to an auto supply shop for an overnight charge. The store tried to get it to take a charge for 24 hours without success. Agree with other reviewer, go to the auto store and you get a less expensive battery that will last longer than this piece of crap.
